About Our Speakers
Finding What Lights You Up
Dan Riskin, Biologist | Science Journalist | Television Host | Author
Whether he’s inspiring viewers as the co-host of Discovery Canada’s flagship science program, Daily Planet; terrifying them as the host of Animal Planet’s docu-horror show, Monsters Inside Me; or covering the latest news as CTV’s Science and Technology Specialist, Dan Riskin’s passion, and curiosity have made him a source of inspiration for all.
In this media-rich presentation, Dan will explore the human connection to nature. What is it about nature that is so healing for the body and mind? How can we best lean into that experience for the greatest possible benefit? Using anecdotes and scientific evidence, Dan will reveal that our love of nature reflects a deeper truth – that we thrive when we’re emotionally engaged. Using research, and experiences from his own life – studying vampire bats in Trinidad, appearing on live TV, or taking a morning run – Dan will share how this revelation has impacted his career and outlook on life.
Known for his infectious humour, Dan has been interviewed by Anderson Cooper, Gayle King, Lisa LaFlamme, Don Lemon, Jay Leno, Charlie Rose, and many others. He has even made eight appearances on The Late Late Show where Craig Ferguson once called him “my favourite scientist.”

Kellylee Evans, Juno Award-Winning Singer-Songwriter
In this inspirational keynote, Kellylee Evans combines original songs with powerful storytelling to recount a journey of healing and recovery.
A little over 10 years ago, Kellylee was an internationally acclaimed singer-songwriter, with multiple albums to her name and a grueling touring schedule. In 2013, life came to an abrupt halt when she was struck by lightning while at home. She has spent the past decade trying to regain her physical health, experiencing setback after setback, until she finally discovered what was really holding her back – fear. Kellylee has gone from a person suffering chronic pain, needing a mobility scooter, and only walking 500 steps a day to someone who walks 12,000 steps a day without assistance. Throughout, she has learned about resilience, determination, and self-care.
In the summer of 2017, Evans triumphantly returned to the stage with her album, Come On, nominated at the 2018 Juno Awards for Vocal Jazz Album of the Year. In 2021, she released her EP, Greenlight, to rave reviews and in 2023, Kellylee was chosen as the grand prize recipient at the third annual, Her Music Awards.
