SSHRC Destination Horizon Grants
support researchers affiliated with eligible Canadian postsecondary institutions to build capacity, foster existing partnerships, and further develop networks and/or consortia with European Union and other “associated countries” researchers, with the ultimate goal of applying to Horizon Europe—Pillar II calls for proposals.
Destination Horizon Grants proposals are expected to respond to the objectives of the .
Destination Horizon Grants are not intended to support implementation of Horizon Europe projects. Instead, the grants support activities between researchers that facilitate:
- disciplinary and/or interdisciplinary exchanges;
- scholarly exchanges;
- intersectoral exchanges between academic researchers and practitioners from the public, private and/or not-for-profit sectors; and/or
- international research collaboration and scholarly exchanges between researchers affiliated with Canadian postsecondary institutions and researchers, students and non-academic partners from the EU and other associated countries.
Eligibility
- Applications can be submitted by an individual researcher or a team of researchers (consisting of one and one or more and/or ).
- Applicants must be affiliated with a that holds institutional eligibility at the time of application. Researchers who maintain an affiliation with a Canadian institution that holds institutional eligibility, but whose primary affiliation is with a non-Canadian postsecondary institution, are not eligible for
- Postdoctoral researchers and students are not eligible for applicant or co-applicant status for a Destination Horizon Grant.
-
Co-Applicants and Collaborators must be ‘Invited’ to the application within the Convergence portal. Those invited will receive an email, which will include your name and email address (as the applicant / project director), and the project title, as well as a link to the . Once they have selected Accept Invitation and completed their own eligibility profile, the co-applicants’ and collaborators’ names will be displayed in the Participants section of your application.
-
Ensure co-applicants and collaborators invited in this section are eligible for that role by consulting the section of the funding opportunity description.
Value and Matching Fund Requirements
Destination Horizon Grants are valued at up to $15,000 for one year.
SSHRC will not fund the full cost of any Destination Horizon Grant. Additional support in the form of eligible cash contributions equivalent to 100% of the amount requested from SSHRC must come from the host institution.
Applicants must demonstrate their ability to secure at least the minimum matching funding. Applicants must do so by including a letter of support from the host institution that clearly confirms the amounts and types of contributions the host is providing.
深夜福利站 applicants must secure a minimum of 50% of the cash match from faculty, department, or other eligible institutional sources. Up to 50% of the remaining match may be requested from 深夜福利站 Research. Applicants are encouraged to meet with their faculty research office and/or Associate Dean (Research) to discuss the cash match.
Special notes:
- A postsecondary institution may only submit up to three Destination Horizon Grant applications for a given deadline. An internal adjudication process will be in place to meet this quota.
- All applications deemed eligible will be entered into a randomized selection process by SSHRC to determine awards.
- An eligible application that is not randomly selected for an award may be resubmitted for a future competition.
Internal Application Process
As this is a quota-based program, 深夜福利站 requires a full draft application uploaded in Convergence by the internal date indicated in the timelines table below. A full draft application consists of:
- Summary of proposal;
- Project description;
- Funds requested from SSHRC;
- Budget justification;
- CV; and
- Draft letter of support outlining faculty/department/other eligible sources of cash contributions.
An email from your Associate Dean (Research) confirming the cash contribution must be emailed to irp@uwo.ca by the internal deadline below.
If 深夜福利站 receives applications over its quota (3 applications), an internal adjudication will take place. Applications will be reviewed according to the following criteria:
- Strength of existing relationships with researchers, partners, networks, and/or consortia from EU and/or other associated countries;
- The feasibility of the research goals and objectives in the one year of the funding period;
- Benefits to training and mentoring of HQP; and
- The likelihood of the Destination Horizon grant funding and host contributions leading to a future Horizon Europe proposal.
Applicants that don't meet the internal deadline or are not selected to go forward will be able to submit an application to a future competition.
Process to Request Support & Letter for Destination Horizon Grants
- Contact your faculty research office and outline the specific amount of cash support you are requesting.
- An email must be sent to irp@uwo.ca from your Associate Dean (Research) confirming the Faculty or other eligible sources of cash contributions.
- Submit your request for 深夜福利站 Research support at the same time you upload your draft application and draft letter in Convergence portal by the stated internal deadline.
- If your application is selected to go forward as part of the quota review process, and funding is approved, a final letter of support can be drafted by your faculty and submitted to 深夜福利站 Research for placement on institutional letterhead and authorized signature.
