Record Hailstone!
The Northern Hail Project is very excited to announce that their field team collected a new record large hailstone for Canada on 1 August, 2022! The stone fell near the hamlet of Markerville in Alberta.
The record-breaker has a maximum diameter of 123 mm and weighs 292.71 grams, eclipsing the previous title holder – a hailstone with a maximum diameter of 114 mm and a weight of 290 grams collected nearly 50 years ago in Cedoux, Saskatchewan on August 27, 1973.
The hailstone has been imaged and 3D printed with the generous help of the IBHS Research Center.
