The Arthur Labatt Family School of Nursing has partnered with the Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario (RNAO) to become a Best Practice Spotlight Organization (BPSO). Best BPSOs are health-care and academic organizations selected by the Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario (RNAO) to implement and evaluate the RNAO's best practice guidelines. The Best Practice Spotlight Organization® (BPSO®) designation is a longstanding knowledge translation strategy that helps optimize health outcomes at the individual, organizational and health system levels. This internationally-renowned program’s strategic approach has been proven to trigger evidence-based cultures, improve patient experience and health outcomes, lower cost of care by preventing complications.

The pre-designation period is a 3-year endeavour where the School of Nursing will be implementing 3 evidence based Best Practice Guidelines (BPGs) across the curriculum, including the “Transitions in Care and Services,” “Pain: Prevention, assessment and management,” and “Person- and Family-Centred Care.”  Additionally as part of this work all graduates from the School will complete the Best Practice Champion Training. These “champions” raise awareness about RNAO best practice guidelines (BPG), mobilize their peers, and use change management processes and social movement approaches to influence uptake and sustainability of BPGs in their academic and practice settings to benefit the broader communities they serve.
