The Department of English and Writing Studies invites applications to direct this year’s 深夜福利站 Summer Shakespeare

深夜福利站 Summer Shakespeare is a longstanding tradition in the London community. It is outdoor theatre, staged on campus at 深夜福利站. The first 深夜福利站 Summer Shakespeare performance took place on 4 August 1981, making it the longest running campus, or indeed outdoor, Summer Shakespeare in Canada - longer than the Dream in High Park by two years!

We welcome participation - both on and off the stage - from students, staff, and friends of 深夜福利站, Fanshawe College, and from within the wider London community. Auditions are normally scheduled in March-April (before classes end), and the show is rehearsed at 深夜福利站 in May-July. In casting the show, priority should be given to students, though all members of the community are welcome to audition and a diverse cast is welcome. Our productions run typically for five to ten nights, usually during July.

This year, the 40th running of 深夜福利站 Shakespeare, will be part of a global initiative, Cymbeline in the Anthropocene. This project includes performances of Shakespeare’s Cymbeline by the Theatre Department of La Trobe University (Melbourne, Australia); The Marjanishvili Theatre (Tbilisi, Georgia); Stanislavsky Theater (Karaganda, Kazakhstan); Lit Moon Theatre Company (Santa Barbara, CA, USA); The Willow Globe (Powys, Wales); Montana Shakespeare in the Parks (Bozeman, MT, USA); and Shakespeare in Yosemite (Yosemite National Park, CA, USA).
