The 深夜福利站 Paleomagnetic & Petrophysical Laboratory was established in 2014 in the Department of Earth Sciences to conduct geophysical research and provide key services in paleomagnetism and petrophysics for industry, academics and other research interests.
WPPL provides the research home for several undergraduate and graduate students in applied geophysics. It operates for contractual services as well, providing sample preparation and a range of petrophysical property measurements on discrete rock samples, obtained from drill core or other sources. Direct petrophysical measurements (magnetics, density, porosity, IP/resistivity, P-wave) made on standard samples offers a complement for downhole or survey-scale geophysical data to help ground truth geophysical models.

Note on sample preparation: Drill core samples or hand samples are drilled to produce at least three cylindrical specimens for each sample. This provides a consistency check for the physical property measurements from any given sample, and produces standard specimens suitable for all analyses listed above.
